As we approach the holidays, shopping becomes harder and harder. There are those of us (myself included) that decide that online shopping in the comforts of our home is our best approach at avoiding long check out lines and horrible parking availability.
Of course, shopping online is not an easy feat either. There are cases where the size you ordered doesn’t fit so you have to go through the hassle of sending it back. I lost count of how many times that has happened to me. Rest assured, here are my tips for shopping online and getting the best results out of you shopping experience!
1. Know Your Measurements
This might be one of my most redundant tips but it’s best if you know your body measurements when shopping on line. If you don’t know how to take them yourself, ask a friend to do it for you. Then once you know your measurements a weight should be lifted from your shoulders. No matter which site you shop on, all you have to do is compare your measurements to their size chart and you’ll know which size to order. The main measurements you need to know are your shoulder width, hips, bust, and waist.
2. Follow The Size Chart
This tip piggy backs off of my first tip. Most shopping websites have a size chart and not all of them follow the same measurements. Make sure to follow the size chart to get your most accurate size. If you want something to fit a bit looser than your measurements, don’t be afraid to order one size bigger.
3. Coupon, Coupon, Coupon!
Whenever I shop online, I’m always looking for the best deal. So I always keep a stash of places to find the best discount for whatever I’m buying. Here are some of the sites I use:

4. Use Filters
When I say use filters, I don’t mean like Snapchat or Instagram. I mean filters within the website to narrow your search. Online shopping can get super overwhelming sometimes. It can become frustrating going through page after page looking for something new. When you use filters in your search, it narrows it down making it an easier and more of a seamless shopping experience.
5. Keep Your Pinterest Close
If you’re a Pinterest lover like myself, you know how helpful and valid this tip is. Create a style vision board for yourself, whether it be on Pinterest or just cutting photos out of a magazine. This can serve as a starting point for your shopping in general. Envision how you’d like to dress and use it as a guide on websites. This will help narrow down your choices so you’re not buying items just to buy.
Have a Basic Knowledge of Fabrics
Is it knit or woven? Does it have Spandex/Lycra ? These are questions you should keep in the back of your mind when selecting a size. Sizing may depend of how the garment is made. Knits have stretch so you may be able to size up or down based on the level of comfort you want to achieve. Wovens do not stretch so it may be best to order one size bigger for overall comfort.
